Malaysian theme park operator Sim Leisure Group has appointed Philip John Whittaker, age 53, as CEO, effective 1 July, according to a filing to SGX Tuesday.

“Mr. Whittaker has more than 20 years of leading industry expertise in developing, launching, managing and restructuring sales, marketing, commercial and operations across the retail, leisure, hospitality, sports, entertainment, media, FMCG, banking/finance, local, state and federal government sectors in Australia and Southeast Asia,” the company said.

Whittaker has been the commercial director of Sim Leisure Escape since January 2022, and from December 2020 to December 2021, he was the strategic advisor for Sim Leisure Group, the filing said.

From November 2019 to June 2020, he was the head of sales and marketing at Desaru Development Holdings for Themed Attractions Resorts & Hotels, the filing said.

Whittaker’s appointment was related to re-designating Sim Choo Kheng to executive chairman from his previous role as executive director and CEO, the filing said.
