ISOTeam enters deal with Nippon Paint Singapore and Acclivis to develop painting drones for building facades

Building maintenance player ISOTeam Ltd. has entered a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Acclivis Technologies and Solutions and Nippon Paint (Singapore) to develop autonomous painting drones to use on building facades and structures, according to a filing to SGX Tuesday.

Anthony Koh, executive director and CEO of Singapore-listed ISOTeam, said using drones is safer, more environmentally friendly and requires less equipment and labour.

“The use of AI in the built environment has become increasingly relevant with the challenges in labour availability and cost in Singapore today. This latest collaboration with Acclivis and Nippon Singapore aims to further expand our use of drone and AI technology to high-altitude spray-painting and roller-painting of building exteriors or other structures,” Koh said in the statement.

“The use of such drones will allow ISOTeam to improve our efficiency in terms of time and costs across our repairs and redecoration operations,” Koh said.

The new technology would be faster in part because site preparation would no longer require installing scaffolding, while quality control would be improved as drones can standardise operations and inspections, ISOTeam said.

Under the MOU, ISOTeam will contribute expertise in painting and project management, while Acclivis, which provides artificial intelligence (AI), video analytics and automation services in Asia Pacific, will work on the technology and development of the project, the filing said.

Nippon Singapore — a leading manufacturer and distributor of paint and coatings in Asia Pacific — will focus on marketing the new service via global networks, ISOTeam said.

The fresh deal comes after ISOTeam’s recent announcement it plans to use AI and drone technology for building facade inspections, via a five-year tie-up with H3 Dynamics to work for Housing and Development Board (HDB), town councils, commercial buildings and condominiums.

Acclivis is a subsidiary of Hong Kong-listed CITIC Telecom International Holdings.
