GS Holdings to franchise Sing Swee Kee chicken rice brand to Qatar

GS Holdings has signed a franchise agreement with Singapore food and beverage entrepreneurs Tan Yan Shan and Lim Yee Min to develop and operate chicken rice outlets in Qatar under the Sing Swee Kee brand name, the company said in a filing to SGX Thursday.

Hainanese chicken rice is an iconic Singapore dish.

Tan and Lim have extensive experience in managing and operating multiple food and beverage brands and concepts, including a successful chain of bubble tea stores in Qatar, the filing said.

After acquiring the Sing Swee Kee brand in May 2019, GS Holdings has created the Rasa Chicken by Sing Swee Kee franchise to serve Hainanese chicken rice to Muslim consumers, with the brand launched in Brunei in November 2019, the filing said.

“Our Rasa Chicken franchise has been well-received by consumers in Brunei and we have successfully demonstrated our ability to adapt standard operating procedures and training program for overseas franchisees,” Pang Pok, CEO and executive director of GS Holdings, said in the statement.

“With a high GDP per capita in Qatar, we believe that there are strong opportunities for our Sing Swee Kee franchise to expand in the country. Furthermore, our latest franchise in Qatar can potentially provide a springboard for us to expand our brand and business outreach in the Middle East where there are more than 280 million Muslim consumers,” Pang added.

The agreement is via GS Holdings’ indirect wholly owned subsidiary Hao Kou Wei Food Group, the filing said.
