BreadTalk’s wholly owned subsidiary, Food Republic Taiwan, entered a franchise deal with Song Fa Holdings to bring Song Fa Bak Kut Teh restaurants to Taiwan, the iconic Singapore bakery chain said in a filing to SGX Thursday.

Under the deal, Food Republic Taiwan will have the franchise rights to develop and operate the Teochew pork-rib stew brand in Taiwan for the next 10 years, the filing said.

Song Fa Bak Kut Teh, founded in 1969, has 10 outlets in Singapore and seven in Indonesia, the filing said. In a deal with BreadTalk, six Song Fa Bak Kut Teh outlets were opened in China and one in Thailand, it said.

The first two outlets in Taiwan will be opened in popular malls in Taipei, BreadTalk said.

“Both malls have strong existing tenants and are household names among the local populace and tourists alike. With the addition of a star attraction like Song Fa Bak Kut Teh, we are confident to deliver the illustrious Song Fa experience to our customers in Taiwan,” Henry Chu, CEO of BreadTalk, said in the statement.
