SICOM rubber factors to watch for Tuesday, 21 August 2018

  • The SICOM front-month contract ended up 1.4 cents US$134.9 cents.
  • TOCOM August rubber futures ended up 1.9 yen ($0.0172) at 169.9 yen per kg.
  • A fresh round of U.S.-China trade talks this month has raised interest on the fate of tariffs by Beijing ranging from 23.1 percent to 75.5 percent on halogenated butyl rubber from the United States, the European Union and Singapore starting from August 20.
  • Overnight, Australian rubber products maker Ansell warned rising raw material costs and tariffs on U.S. exports to China could stall earnings growth next year, sending shares plunging 10 percent, Reuters reported.
  • India’s southwestern state of Kerala is recovering from torrential rains, with rubber production expected to fall 13.5 percent from a year ago to 600,000 metric tons for the year ending March 31, 2019, according to the Cochin Rubber Merchants Association.
